What it is
Pocket Boy is an iPhone and iPad app aimed at kids. It’s presented as a storybook you can interact with in various ways, and is about a small boy called Pockey Boy and his daily adventures in a miniature world. The game was developed by Addictive Colors.
What I did
As Lead Sound Designer I created all the sounds for this game, including the music.
Samples of my work
Here is the main theme I created for Pocket Boy:
Keywords for this piece was: summer, light-hearted, adventure, magical and small. I wanted it to feel like a playful, but not too stressful, summer evening with a light sound.
How I did it
Initially I was tasked to create only one song for the app, but the project was something so different I became inspired to create more. After about a week, I had created one song for each of the pages in the storybook – 9 songs in total. All the songs in the game originated from the main theme in one way or another, to keep the music consistent throughout the story. I also created some sound effects for various actions you can take in the story.
The sound was implemented by the programmer at Addictive Colors since I didn’t have the right hardware to do so myself. This fact along with a tight deadline sadly made it much harder to properly balance the sound and music when played through an iPhone speaker. Still, it came out good enough and the studio was very satisfied with the results.
